Derek Manning was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. He left in 1989, and lived as a practical atheist until God saw fit to save him in 1991.

However his journey was not that easy and not without heart break. His journey out of the Jehovah's Witnesses started with watching the late Dr. Walter Martin on TV. It was these shows that led him to begin doubting the teachings of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

He moved from Taos, NM to Los Angeles, CA in 1986. He left the Jehovah's Witnesses and living as if there was no God.

In 1991, I began listening to Christian radio. It was at this time that I discovered the Grace to You program and the teaching of John MacArthur. A couple of I months later l had hired a young lady who invited me to a Nicky Cruz evangelistic meeting. It was there that God saw fit to save him. It was at this point that his entire family shunned him for leaving "The Truth" as Jehovah's Witnesses call it.

The evangelistic meeting was sponsored by a local Pentecostal church that is part of a group of churches that specializes in spreading the gospel min the inner cities and through them Derek evangelized to gang members, drug addicts, and the other throwaways of society.

As he began to grow in doctrine, it became clear that he needed to make a choice and leave his home church due to its adherence to Word of Faith teachings. He left that church in 2005 and eventually settled in a Reformed Baptist fellowship about a year later, where he is a member and serves in various capacities.

He has engaged in counter cult evangelism, specifically towards Jehovah's Witnesses. He still has a passion for evangelism in the inner city, and engages in it often.

Derek is a Trekker, and a fan of the Star Wars universe.

He is the father of two grown children, and is looking forward to becoming a grandfather.
