Pastor John MacArthur: Social justice is the most subtle & dangerous threat to the Gospel

In the fall of 2018, The Statement on Social Justice & the Gospel was drafted. For many, this was the line drawn in the sand. Finally, the crowd who was though of as the last line of defense against heresy was entering the fray.

Pastor John MacArthur had a history of bringing clarity to chaos, taking a stand against Word of Faith with his books Charismatic Chaos and Strange Fire, along with the Strange Fire Conference. He had also taken stands against movements like the bringing together of Catholics and Protestants, The Emerging Church and a host of other heresies that popped up within Evangelicalism.

So when The Dallas Statement was announced, many thought that this was going to be the team to lead us into battle to conquer the social justice warriors. This included men like MacArthur, Phil Johnson, Voddie Baucham, James White, Josh Buice, Justin Peters, Tom Buck and many others.

Pastor MacArthur & Co started out strong. Some of the best articles written confronting the issue of social justice were written by him immediately after the release of the Statement. The greatest indictment on the social justice movement was this statement by Pastor MacArthur:

Over the years, I've fought a number of polemical battles against ideas that threaten the gospel. This recent (and surprisingly sudden) detour in quest of 'social justice' is, I believe, the most subtle and dangerous threat so far.

The threat had been exposed for all to see. this push of social justice is not only a threat, it is "the most subtle and dangerous threat so far." Now that's saying a lot, coming from him!

Think about it: He had just launched a multi-year Strange Fire campaign confronting the false gospel of the Word of Faith (WOF) movement. He had gone into painstaking details itemizing all the different ways that the WOF had been leading people astray. So we all assumed that he'd take the lead on this issue, as well.

I mean, if social justice is more of a threat to the gospel than WOF, then clearly he'd use the same strategy: name names, confront the error, write a book, host a conference, etc. Everybody was preparing to join together to go to battle to protect the Gospel.

This article is an excerpt of the book Social Injustice: Exposing the False Gospel of the Social Justice Movement, which brought together authors Jeff Dornik, Brannon Howse, Dr Andy Woods, Dr Mike Spaulding, Thomas Littleton, Ken Peters, Sam Jones, Ian M Giatti, Patrick Wyett, Paige Rogers, Dustin Faulkner, Schumann and the foreword by Mychal Massie. This team of authors exposes the heresy of Social Justice and how it preaches a false Gospel. Order your copy today! Use code GATE at checkout for 10% off.
