Are the Pre-Born Zombies?

Are the Pre-Born Zombies? This seems like a strange question to ask, but the question has be raised because of the comments of “Dr.” Jennifer Gunter (I refuse to recognize abortionists as real doctors) in a tweet in the early morning hours of January 31. She stated, “It’s Dr. Gunter to you. We’re discussing a subject of my expertise. The unborn are zombies. That doesn’t apply here. Use medical terms or at least grown up words. An embryo is an human embryo, it’s not a human.” This tweet is in the midst of a string of tweets that started with Gunter challenging GOP House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to a discussion about abortion.

It’s Dr. Gunter to you. We’re discussing a subject of my expertise. The unborn are zombies. That doesn’t apply here. Use medical terms or at least grown up words. An embryo is an human embryo, it’s not a human. https://t.co/j0X34r71sz — Jennifer Gunter (@DrJenGunter) January 31, 2021

Here are a few definitions of the word zombie:

“A corpse said to be revived by witchcraft, especially in certain African and Caribbean religions.”[i]

“a will-less and speechless human (as in voodoo belief and in fictional stories) held to have died and been supernaturally reanimated”[ii]

“the supernatural power that according to voodoo belief may enter into and reanimate a dead body”[iii]

“a person held to resemble the so-called walking dead”[iv]

“a person markedly strange in appearance or behavior”[v]

“a mute and will-less body, robbed of its soul and given the semblance of life by a supernatural force, usually for manual labor or some evil purpose.”[vi]

“(in popular culture) an undead creature with a reanimated human body, typically depicted in science fiction or horror stories as contagious to the living by bite and vulnerable only to serious head trauma”[vii]

It doesn’t take a medical degree to understand that Gunter is off in left field… far off in left field. Does she really believe that babies are made in the womb by voodoo? Or that babies in the womb somehow resemble the walking dead? I doubt she actually believes that to be true, but what she is desperately trying to do is dehumanize the pre-born. Why would she want to dehumanize the pre-born? Simple, she is one of the most (in)famous promoters of abortion in our modern era.

Since Gunter wants to remind everyone that she is a “Dr.” and we ought to call her by that title, let’s examine some of the science and see if science would call the pre-born a zombie.

To be a zombie you must be a dead body or a corpse. The scientific qualification for life is: metabolism, growth, reaction to stimuli, and an ability to reproduce.[viii] At the point of fertilization the pre-born child meets all of these qualifications.

To be a zombie one must also be mindless or will-less and be marked by strange behavior. A pre-born child at the point of fertilization is a unique individual with its own genetic code, look at what Embryologists Ronan O’Rahilly, Fabiola Müller, and Keith L. Moore state:

“Although life is a continuous process, fertilization is a critical landmark because, under ordinary circumstances, a new, genetically distinct human organism is thereby formed.”[ix]

“Human development begins at fertilization when a male gamete or sperm (spermatozoon) unites with a female gamete or oocyte (ovum) to form a single cell – a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marked the beginning of each of us as a unique individual.”[x]

For a person demanding that others call her “Dr.” Gunter seems to ignore science in favor of promulgating her feelings and ideologies. Gunter’s real issue is that she doesn’t know Jesus Christ as her Savior and she hates the law of God. She wants to declare what is right and wrong and refuses to humble herself to receive the grace of God.

Consider the following passages:

Psalm 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

Exodus 20:13 "You shall not murder.”

James 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble."

My hope is that Gunter will repent of her sins and accept Christ as her Savior as she may have more degrees than a thermometer, but when her ideas are placed next to God’s law she is made very simple. God is a God of grace and mercy but He is also a God of righteousness and justice may Gunter repent before it is eternally too late!
