It’s official… I’m mounting my comeback! If that’s what you call it…
A couple of months ago, I stepped down from being a broadcaster with WorldView Weekend’s Radio Network. There was no bad blood between Brannon and I. I still count him as a close friend. However, pastors like Phil Johnson and JD Hall mounted an attack strategy to discredit me because I would not publicly state that Carl Crew is not saved. That attack strategy was being used both against me and against Brannon, but it was my decision, not Brannon’s, and I didn’t want him and his ministry affected by the blowback against me.
I’m fine. I’ve been taking a deep breath after a year of being involved in debates about important subjects within the church. It’s been nice to take a step back, reflect on where I’ve been and what I’m going to do next. That’s where this email comes in.
I’m officially announcing my return to the podcast world. I’ll be doing this on my own. I’m not going to be tied to any particular network, as I want to be responsible for defending myself and my positions. I want to promote more conversation and honest discussions within and without the church. With that said, I’m launching two separate podcast.
The first podcast is going to be a retooled, rebranded The GateKeepers Podcast. This will continue to be a monologue of me simply tackling issues affecting the church and attempt to discuss it from a biblical perspective. I’m going to begin posting my podcasts that I recorded while at WorldView Weekend on a weekly basis, maybe even a couple per week until we are all caught up. So for the next several weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to take a listen to some of my older shows. And then once those are all posted, I’ll begin recording new episodes. I look forward to jumping back in the fray. I may start incorporating video into this, so that I can post these podcasts on YouTube, as well. As soon as I have links for this podcast, I will let you know.
My second podcast is going to be a brand new attempt to further conversation, both within and outside of the church. This will simply be called Conversations with Jeff. I will sit down with those with whom I think can have a positive, good conversation. Some guests will be Christians, some will not. Some I’ll agree with, some I’ll disagree with strongly. Guest may be from all walks of life, whether it’s pastors, actors, podcasters, thought leaders, entrepreneurs, etc.
My goal with this podcast is to discuss issues and ideas and further rational conversation. One thing I’ve learned over this past year is how much we all talk past each other. We’ll yell our talking points at each other and then act shocked when nobody changes their mind. What I would like to see happen is to have honest conversations. As Christians, often times we find ourselves surrounded only by those we agree with, thus being closed off to the world and only preaching to the choir or talking in an echo chamber. We need to be salt and light to the world, but the only way to do that would be to actually be in the world and have a voice within the conversations occurring around us. Participating in the larger conversation will push me and stretch me, and it will definitely be a learning experience.
Now, this is not going to be an Interfaith Dialogue situation. The problem with that is trying to find common ground and create community around something other than truth. However, as believers, we are called to be light in this dark world. That means participating in the conversations occurring around us, exposing truth and confronting error.
The first Conversation will be released today, and the guest will be Carl Crew. Carl is an actor, filmmaker and owner of the California Institute of Abnormalarts, a circus freak show themed venue in North Hollywood. We will discuss Carl’s story, his venue, and go over some of the criticisms of him & the CIA.
When it comes to my podcasts, I hope that this will encourage more conversations and discussions. When we enter these discussions, we need to do so in good faith, rationally and honestly sharing our perspective, but also listening to the other side in order to respond to their points. No straw man arguments accepted here!
I look forward to jumping back into the podcasting world. I’m learning as I go, always looking for ways to grow personally, both intellectually and in my walk with the Lord.
Now, I’m expecting the Good Old Boys Club to do what they can to silence anyone who might disagree with or critique them. The way to combat them and their liberal attack strategies is not by responding in kind, but through open conversations and the sharing of ideas for the purposes of pushing us and stretching us in our walk with the Lord. There’s only so long you can live in an echo chamber before you no longer have access to anyone who might disagree with you.
We need to be in the world, but not of the world. We need to be a light shining in this dark world, always pointing to truth and to Christ. I hope that you will join me in this journey.
